i can say

golly artists are always the ones who decide what it is they do. i remember when i wrote in my notebook back in 1963 'i am a painter' and signed it. i received a bfa in painting the year before as well as 'outstanding senior in art.' but i was not ready to say i am a painter until i came to it as i came to it. when i realized it. (i went on to get a ma in painting--that is, i endured the process and the crap one has to go through). this does not mean that i don't question and challenge myself continually. this goes for haiku. i can say i write haiku because i know i do. i can say i write linked haiku because i know i do. it is up to you to describe what it is you do.
